Sony Action Cameras, mainly the AS300 and FDR X3000, have been the top choice for IRL streamers since 2018 as they continue to perform better overall when compared to even the latest generation action cams from competing brands. This is thanks to the following reasons:
Superior optical image stabilization which creates ultra smooth footage in real-time whereas alternate offerings often rely on software solutions during post-processing.
High quality stereo microphone which captures music and ambience nicely while voices remain clear. Additionally, it has a dedicated external microphone input allowing for 3rd-party audio hardware.
An uncommon form factor which can be advantageous for certain IRL setups and mounting options.
It features a micro HDMI output at the rear of the camera rather than relying on accessories to enable this functionality. This also keeps a setup more compact.
The image quality and colors, while no longer best-in-class, have stood the test of time well and are still comparable with much newer devices. The other features above make up for any shortcomings in this area.
We understand that even with careful use, accidents happen and cameras wear down over time so we are selling a limited amount of our inventory for streamers to replace their devices.

Cameras are refurbished or open-box so do not come in original packaging, and no accessories are included as these cameras are intended for use as replacements for existing IRL Backpack setups.

Unfortunately, Sony discontinued production of these cameras in 2021 and while they have released new action cams since then, those models often lack some of the important features outlined above.
We continue to use the X3000 in the IRL Backpack v7 as acquiring them is still sometimes possible. With that said, it’s getting harder to find working units with each passing month.
In the near future, streamers may need to adapt to using different camera options if Sony or another brand doesn’t soon release a true successor to these reliable and trusted action cams.
